Another Chance for the Beta

Chapter 56

HAYLEY

I stare at the door behind Harvey.

I know he is out there. I know I have to meet him sooner or later, but I still don't know. I still remember what my father said in my dream about giving it a go with him, but it is so weird.

"Hayley," says Theo, who brings me out of my mind.

I look over at him as he looks at me. "You don't have to do anything you don't want to, but Nathan has been here for nearly two weeks and he has been waiting for the right time to meet you," he says.

I stare back at him. "You met him too?" I asked, his face softened.

Great, everyone has met him, but why wouldn't they have said anything to me about it, especially Theo?

Theo clears his throat and walks around to me. "Hayley," he says as he comes to the side of me and kneels down, placing his finger under my chin to move me to look at him. I stare back at those big brown eyes. "Baby, he saved you, too." I sigh. "What do you mean?" I ask even though I knew the answer, but no one else has talked about this to me except Vivian.

Theo searches my eyes, trying to figure out what I'm feeling. "Nathan and you have the same rare blood type. Apparently it's a family thing," he says. "You needed blood due to blood loss from the wounds," he says and places his finger on

the one on my leg, I can feel his touch running over my scar through my jeans. "He donated some blood and helped you. I think you should meet him."

He says and slowly gets up; placing a kiss on my lips. "You might have something in common with him and also you can find out more about your background."

He moves away and walks to the door. He opens it.

I move the chair slowly and walk towards him, there waiting a few feet away from the door, was a tall man staring back at me.

Theo grabs my coat and bobble hat. "You both need to talk and baby," he says. "You need your boots on."

I stare at the man before me; I turn around and grab everything that I need. I made sure I was bundled up warmly and headed towards the man outside the cabin.

I knew my brothers and Theo were by the front door watching everything unfold, but I didn't need an audience.

I slowly walk towards the man, who is still staring at me, but smiles as I get closer.

"Hayley," he says in a deep voice. "It is so nice to finally meet you."

I nod; I don't want to say anything as I don't know what my voice will do.

He looks back towards the cabin and smiles. "You have a lovely home," he says.

I stare at him and look at every inch of him; he looks young, but you can see the years have made him weary; he has black hair with silver running through most of his hair. He has brown eyes, which means I got my eyes from my mother. But his nose is like mine and his lips.

Nathan looks at me, "I know this is hard to take in but I wanted to meet you as..." he says but stops.

"..." I start to say, but look back at the three big men by the door. I know they can hear me. I close my mouth and close my eyes for a moment. Raina sits back on her hind legs, watching with intent. "You can do this," she says in a whisper. I open my eyes and look back at the man. "Shall we go for a walk?" I ask.

Nathan smiles. "That would be lovely," he says.

We both turn to head away from the cabin, but a mind link comes through. "Baby, we will stay here till you both get back," Theo says.

I didn't say anything back as I carried on walking.

Nathan and I walk in silence for a little while, but I know of a place to take him where we could sit and the scenery is perfect and peaceful. "How are you finding being in the pack?" I ask, suddenly trying to break the silence between us.

Nathan looks over at me and smiles. "I really like it here. I always did when I came to visit with my..." he says and stops. I look over at him and notice that he is trying to fight with something, but he shakes his head. "I came here with my family, my Luna and son," he says.

I look back at him. "What happened?" I asked, and spotted a bench for us to sit on the way.

I sit down and Nathan sits next to me, considering it is cold out. We both need to talk and judge on how this topic is to him, I think he needs my full attention.

Nathan doesn't say anything at first but stares out. "My Luna, her name was Freda and my son Dominic," he says and turns to look at me. "Gary killed them when they were on their way to safety after we were receiving loads of attacks on our territory."

"What do you mean, attacks?" I ask. I can feel and see his hurt run through him when he mentioned Freda and Dominic. It is the same look I had whenever I thought about Luke.

Nathan's face turns into a stern look. "Rogues kept attacking our territory, I found out from the werewolf council that Gary and his band of followers were trying to take over small packs to gain numbers to take over larger ones," he says. "They made my people submit. Many were true fighters and stood with me till the end but others were too scared and eventually joined Gary's followers. They took all the females with them and killed everyone else," he says as anger forms across his features. "I was kept away in a cell until a guard of mine let me out to escape, we had a five hundred-year-old secret passageway which led out of the cells into the forest which is close to where the werewolf council is based."

I nod.

"I'm sorry you had to go through that," I said.

He looks at me. "I'm sorry about what you have been through over the years, especially at the hands of your mother and that girl," he says. "Harvey and Harrison informed me when we were waiting for you to wake up." I breathe in and out, letting a sigh escape. "I know. Mother knows how to hurt me. She has done it all my life."

He looks at me but turns to stare out.

"I visited here once before when I found out about you," he says suddenly. I could feel my chest getting tight as the face of my father who raised me appeared through my head.

I don't say anything.

"I met your father," he says "I didn't tell Harrison or Harvey this as I thought it would make it all too real for them but your father actually was a decent guy, he made me a cup of coffee and he wanted to know who I was." I look back at him. "Why didn't you take me?" I ask.

He looks startled at me, or more like from the question. "I never would have Hayley, I was in no fit state to look after someone else, I was barely holding onto myself," he says. "I did think about it that day, but when I spoke to your father, he told me everything about Ruth and your brothers."

He turns to me. "I was going to take you if you were not safe, but your father and brothers protected you and loved you," he says with a smile.

I sigh. "I lost a baby five years ago," I say to him and he looks at me with sadness in his eyes. "Carly, the girl you said before, she pushed me down the stairs and kicked me while I was down. I lost the baby due to her, all because she wanted my mate," I said.

I look over to him. "I know what it is like to miss the ones you lose," I say. "I know you were in a bad place before, and I'm assuming you are slowly learning to heal. Maybe we could do that together."

He smiles. "I would like that."

I look back at him. "I have to ask, though, what do you want to do about my mother?"

He looks back at me. "I don't know. I haven't seen her. I know everyone has been down there to talk to her, but she hasn't said a word to anyone."

I turn and look ahead. "I think we both should go and deal with this. We can't move on from anything if the one person who has tormented us is still alive," I say.

Nathan looks at me. I can feel his eyes on me. "Hayley, we can wait."

I can't help but growl out.

"I need to do something, I feel lost," I said, still looking ahead. "I remember everything she told me in that tent. She told me I ruined her life, I had a different father and also her face every time she stabbed me," I said as a tear slides down my face. "I need to see her, face her one last time, I know I won't be able to move forward if she is still in the cell."

I turn to look at him. "I know everyone is stepping around me like they are walking on eggshells, but I need to do this as I need to move forward."

Nathan looks at me and his face softens. "Hayley, you can do whatever you want. You want to lash out at your mother. We won't stop you," he says and smirks. "Agent Matthews thinks she will be stunned to see you, as she keeps muttering that you are dead. How ironic if you show yourself to her all alive and well."

He smiles. "She hasn't spoken to anyone; I think she thinks Gary will save her, but she doesn't believe that he is dead."

I don't speak for a moment. "I want you there with me when I confront her," I say, which takes him by surprise.

I want to tell him about my dream.

I look at him. "When I was asleep for two weeks, I had a weird dream that I was in a garden with my father, my son, my cousin, my wolf and also the Moon Goddess," I said, Nathan looking back at me as I recall everything about the dream. I told him what my father told me and what I should do, also about my son as well.

After I finish, he looks at me with a warm smile. "I don't think it was a dream, Hayley," he says. "The Moon Goddess has been known to meet some of her children through a dreamlike state to make sure they know that they are loved." "You believe me" I say a little startled, most people would have thought I was crazy but when I look at him, his smile widens more "Yes I do Hayley, I think the Moon Goddess has been watching over you, giving you strength when you needed it the most and also I think she wants you to have your final moments with the ones you love, the ones you lost."

I smile at him. "I haven't told anyone about the dream," I said quietly.

"I think you should tell your mate," he says with a smile. "He might like to know about his son being at peace. I wish I could have."

I smile at him.

"I want to get to know more and I would love to know about Dominic too," I say suddenly as Nathan slowly moves to get up from the bench as he turns and looks at me with a big smile on his face. "I would like that. Dominic would have been like Harvey and Harrison, very protective of you," he says. "Alpha Jacob has asked me to stay and help him run the business. We have been trying to sort out the huge mess that girl and your mother have made, but I think it would be a good idea to stay longer," he says.

I can't help but smile.

We both get up and walk back towards the cabin once again as our faces and hands are numb.

Besides, I think the three men back there have waited long enough.
