Chapter In Regret Novel 16
Chapter 16
After leaving his blood-stained workshop, Thorne raced through the moonlit forest toward the SilverFang territory. Finally, he understood his mistakes. Surely he could reclaim his Luna. But Rayne wasn't at the SilverFang den.
He caught her scent at the pack healer's sanctuary. There she stood, Soren carefully supporting her as they emerged, her hand resting protectively over her belly, face glowing with joy. Thorne's world shattered. No. Impossible.
He burst forward, wild-eyed. "Rayne, you're... carrying a pup?"
"Yes," she smiled, genuine happiness radiating from her. "I'm finally having my own pup."
"How dare you carry another wolf's pup? Is it Soren's?!" Thorne's wolf form rippled beneath his skin, barely contained.
"Why shouldn't I? We completed our mate-bond ceremony moons ago."
Thorne went eerily still. "Mate-bond... you're bonded to him..."
"You're mine! You can't bond with another!" His control snapped, his wolf partially emerging.
When I ignored him, he turned on Soren with a snarl. "I knew every mark on her skin for years. Her first pup was mine. You'll never match our bond!"
Soren silenced him with a swift, brutal display of Alpha dominance. "She chose poorly once. Now she has a true mate. You're nothing but a dark memory in her past."
Our pack vehicle pulled away, leaving Thorne behind. Through the rear window, I watched him chase us, his limping form desperate and broken. He stumbled, crashing to the ground, still reaching. toward us with trembling claws.
"They're both unstable," Storm muttered, her eyes dark with worry. "A rejected mate and a disgraced wolf... what if their madness drives them to harm Rayne and the pup?"
Soren pulled me closer, one hand protectively covering mine where it rested over our growing pup. His Alpha presence wrapped around us like a shield, his scent mixing with mine in that perfect way it had since we'd completed our mate-bond. "Never," he growled, voice deep with both power and Tenderness. "No force in any territory could keep me from protecting what's mi
leaned into his embrace, feeling our pack bond pulse with shared strength. This was what a true male-bond felt like - not the desperate possession Thorne had shown, but this unwavering trust, this
one-deep certainty. Soren had waited patiently through the years, protecting me even when I belonged to another, never demanding, only offering his quiet support until I was ready to see what had always been there.
"My mate," he murmured against my hair, his wolf's contentment rumbling through his chest. "Our pup will know only safety and love."
Storm watched us with knowing eyes, her earlier concern melting into a satisfied smile. She'd seen this coming long before either of us had admitted it - her brother's heart had chosen its mate years ago, waiting only for the Moon Goddess to bring us together at the right time.
dawn, the border sentries burst through the mist, their fur still bristling as they brought word of the night's bloodshed.
Silvana met her end at the claws of the vengeful pack, her final breaths echoing through the moonlit valley where wolves had made their dens since the first moon rose. Her blood stained the silver-blessed stones of the ancient pack grounds, a warning to all who would break pack law.
Thorne survived their attack, but lost an ear and a leg. The proud Alpha couldn't bear the shame of being marked, couldn't face the whispers and stares of his former pack.
That night, he consumed deadly wolfsbane. When they found him, his wolf had already joined the Moon Goddess.
