Chapter 4
Parker kissed May on the top of her head and said, “I’ve got to get going May. Work to be done, coffee and pastry to bake and sell. We’ve got a family to feed now and I’ve got to make the money to afford it. We’ll talk about how to keep the child tonight when I get home. He turned and left, but deep inside he wanted to stay and enjoy the glow of May as she held the infant. He left the room and was down the stairs and out the door in no time. He was running now to make up for the lost time it took him to return to the house. He felt alive and full of energy. He heart and soul seemed at great peace with the world. A dream that May and he had for many a year had come true. Whatever the future would bring because of the child could only be a goodness filled with love.
He arrived at the shop in half the time it normally took him to get there and went right to work setting up for the day. Angelo Festa, his right hand man employee, showed up a short time later and started to assist in the day’s setup. Angelo was a short olive skinned Italian gentlemen, who every one called Angie, Angie taught Parker everything he’s knows about the bakery business. Angie had a natural ability for making great pastries and cakes. He was a master of the culinary art of sweet tasting delights. Angelo had sold the business to Parker a few years back. Parker had worked for Angie and he saw that Parker had the gift and passion to keep the business going. So when health issue started to affect Angie’s ability to run the business. He offered Parker the chance to buy him out. The only stipulation to the sale was that Angie could keep working there until his time came to go to the big bakery in the sky and create sweet delights that would even tempt the angels.
Parker didn’t have the money needed to take over the business so Angie put up the cash needed to finance a loan and told Parker that he could pay it back in small weekly payment interest free. That was eight years ago and Parker had pay back the loan and ten percent interest that he had to convince Angie to take.
Angie notice that Parker had a glowing smile on his face and it seem to shine a happiness that was overwhelming to behold. He turned to Parker and said, “That smile on your face is so bright it’s blinding. You look to happy for this hour of the morning. What’s up with you?” Parker turned to Angie and still grinning from ear to ear said, “Angie, God has answered my wife’s and I prayers. A miracle happened in the early hours of the morning up on South Hunnington Ave. “I’m confused here. The only thing I know that you and May want is a bambino. So what does that street got to do with it? I knew that Angelo would understand so I told him how as I was walking to the shop this morning I had come upon a baby. I then told him what had happen at the house and the images I saw in my mind and the gray haired bearded man that seem to want to hurt the child.
“Now all I have to figure out is how we can legally keep the child. I don’t want to go to the police, because I fear that the child will be somehow given over to the man that I feel wants to hurt the child. I thought maybe we could just say that he was the child of a recently decease relative, but after some thought I realized that there would be some legal paperwork involved even with that scenario.” said Parker. The smile on his face seemed a little less bright than before. Angie saw his smile start to fade and said, “Whey buddy, I may be able to help you with that. I know a guy that knows guy, if you know what I mean. Of course being Italian right from the old country there was a lot of hand movement going on while all this was being said. “Let me see what I can do. I’ll call my guy and he’ll call his guy and we’ll see what happens. Okay by you?” Angie asked. Parker thought for a moment and said, “I’ll really owe you big time Angie if you can pull it off.” “You owe me nada, but you be a good Papa to that bambino or I break you face.” Angie replied with a stern eye and an impish smile on his face.
If you break my pretty face he’ll have an ugly Papa.” replied Parker. With that they both started laughing and went back to work.
