Chapter 21
Angie and Parker were sitting on a bench on Hunnington Ave waiting for a trolley to come. They both sat silently thinking about the incident that had occurred at the bakery with Peter. Both had experienced the incident in their own way. Parker only saw what happened, while Angie had been an active participant. Angie saw the same things Peter saw behind his closed eyes and felt the healing process. There was also a mental communication going on as well between them. Angie sensed Peter searching through his mind for needed facts that he had on his heart condition. In the real world time the search took less than an instant, but in Angie’s mind it seemed to last an eternity. Angie also knew that the mental link between him and Peter was totally instinctive on Peter’s part. Peter actually gathered the information needed from Angie’s memories without even knowing he had done so. Angie turned towards Parker and said “I don’t think going to the hospital is a wise idea.” Parker responded with “Why not? We should have you checked out to make sure that everything is alright.” Angie just shook his head and said “Think of the implications that might arise when they find my heart has repaired itself. They’ll want to know the whys and wherefores and start probing into places that we might not want them too. How do I explain what happened? They’re not going to believe the excuse that I changed my diet or I found an over the counter remedy that repairs damages heart muscle. Even if they believe that some miraculous healing occurred it would be all over the papers and news media. Someone could put two and two together and come up with the answer, that being Peter.” “Your right Angie, I never thought about that. That’s one can of worms we don’t want opened.” replied Parker.
“I will never forget what I saw. It was an experience that is burnt into my memories as long as I live. I walked in just as Peter laid his hand on your chest and a soft yellow glow enveloped both of you. The glow got brighter with each second that passed till it was almost blinding. I felt slight warmth at first coming from the glow but as it intensified the heat from it was almost unbearable. At the heat from the glow reached its highpoint, I saw the glow turn into a yellow transparent bubble that rose about an inch or two off the floor with both of you in it. A red colored light fill inside of the bubble, but it did not change the outer yellow glow. The red light seemed to solidify within the bubble and I could no longer see you or Peter in it. It stayed that way floating above the floor for about a minute, then without making a sound the bubble burst releasing the red light into the room. It was a bright sudden flash that lasted only a second and Peter and you were once again in the original position that I had first observed when I entered the room” said Parker as he leaned on his knees with his elbows looking down at the concrete sidewalk below him.
They both rose to a standing position and faced each other and Angie said “Parker, what happened today was a miracle and God sent. I’ll never know why God chose to bring Peter into our lives and prolong mine using Peter as his tool, but there must be a reason that is not yet understood by any of us. Inevitably we will find out what the future has to offer in this matter, but for now we will blindly accept it and go on leading out lives. Parker puts his both hands on Angie’s shoulders and looked him straight in the eye and said “You’re a friend, a wise old man and a good mentor to both Peter and me. I’m glad you’re still here with us, because….I could never make a cannoli or any other Italian pastry as good as yours. Our regular customers would dwindle to nothing. They would be force to find another bakery to satisfy the cravings for the tastes and aromas that you spoiled them with. And this they would never find. So maybe the reason why God is taken pity us is for our customers. He doesn’t want to see them suffer the pangs of withdrawal from the delicious favors they have come to know and love, and besides I could never find another baker to work as cheap as you.” After a short pause of silence and staring at each other they both started laughing. They kept on laughing as they walked down Hunnington Ave back to the bakery.
