A Drunken Decision Cynthia Chapter 28
Lucas thought there wasn’t a need for two people to be available to receive something like a mere delivery.
However, much to his shock, when the elevator doors finally opened, he was greeted by the sight of several paper boxes of various sizes and each about
half his height
“Didn’t you hand me your card so I could use it to buy my house?” asked Lucas incredulously as he turned back to look at Annabelle. He was utterly confused by this spate of events and couldn’t figure out where she had gotten all the money for these purchases from
The card was in his possession, and the house had been purchased without touching a single cent of hers. However, Lucas had gotten someone to handle the processing such that the unit could be placed under Annabelle’s name. That was a small measure he took for his peace of mind and was also something he didn’t mind doing to fulfill her wish.
Annabelle hadn’t considered that they would deliver all the parcels at the same time. As such, she couldn’t help but feel slightly embarrassed as she locked at the piles of boxes before her and stroked her nose.
That said, she was no fool either. She was cunning enough at her age to split her money up instead of putting all her eggs in the same basket.
Naturally, the card that she had given him contained the largest allotment of cash out of all her accounts. Even so, the remaining cards she reserved for her personal use each contained a six–figure sum.
In addition, she still had a card from Timothy in her possession. That would more than suffice for covering her daily expenses.
“These are all daily necessities! I don’t just buy things randomly,” declared Annabelle indignantly.
As the words came out of her mouth, she felt that she had made a good point and patted herself on the back for it. After all, she didn’t hanker after luxury brands, and the sizeable amount of clothes she owned were actually courtesy of Madeline.
Annabelle grew slightly uncomfortable at the thought of Madeline. She couldn’t help but wonder if the latter had showered too much affection on her in the past and wanted to make up for it by redirecting all her affection to Ashley now that she was back.
Annabelle thought to herself, “Perhaps Mom rationalized that she had displayed more than enough love for me in the past several years. On the other hand, Ashley had been devoid of such affections and had instead been suffering out in the world. Perhaps that was what drove her decision to make up for it now.”
As she continued to muse about this matter, she acknowledged that she was all right if Madeline loved her a little less. After all, she was more than willing to help her parents by loving and caring for Ashley. However, while she was all right with Madeline loving her less or even not at all, she couldn’t understand why Madeline had gone so far as to display such hatred for her.
It was near impossible for her to engage Madeline in peaceful conversation.
“What are you daydreaming about?” asked Lucas.
With Lucas‘ sudden interjection, Annabelle was pulled out of her thoughts and back to reality. She turned and saw Lucas with a bemused expression as he stood next to her and looked at her.
She directed her attention back to the matter at hand and saw that the boxes had already been unloaded from the elevator. The delivery staff stood nearby with an order sheet in hand as he waited expectantly for them.
She shook her head and forced herself to dispel any further thoughts or ruminations about her family. After all, she was pregnant now and about to become the happy mother of two children. She didn’t want her children to grow up to be just like herself and Ashley. Conversely, she wanted them to love and care for one another from the bottom of their hearts. To make her dream a reality, Annabelle was fully aware that she had to protect them with all her might and prevent them from being hurt. Otherwise, try as she might, things would inevitably deviate from her wishes, and the children would develop a weak mindset.
This also served to solidify her resolution to ensure that her marriage with Lucas worked out successfully.
With just her ability alone, she was surely unable to provide for her children in a satisfactory manner.
As Annabelle looked up and gazed at the man who had already gone ahead to match the received inventory with the delivery staff, she couldn’t help but

think that it couldn’t be too difficult to live a smooth sailing life with such a handsome and capable man.
After the assortment of boxes had been moved into the house, Annabelle made sure to thank the delivery staff before she happily began to rip the boxes
open,
She saw that Lucas moved to help her but quickly shooed him away.
“Go ahead with your matters! I can manage fine alone!” implored Annabelle with a brilliant smile. She didn’t find any of this cumbersome at all. Conversely, she found the entire process exhilarating, almost as if she was opening several surprise boxes.
Lucas saw that she was indeed in a good mood and decided not to force the issue. He paid heed to her words and decided to let her continue to enjoy herself.
“I’ll head to the study to settle some matters. Just shout out for me if you need my help with anything. I’ll be keeping the door open! You can handle the opening and unwrapping, but leave the cleanup and moving to me!” replied Lucas before he padded away from her.
Annabelle nodded enthusiastically and continued to shoo him away. “Go ahead!”
Lucas couldn’t help but curl his lips into a frown as he took in how both her eyes sparkled excitedly at the sight of the boxes before her and how she hadn’t paid much heed to what he had instructed. He prepared to say something in response but ultimately decided that he would be too naggy if he were to say it. As such, he swallowed his words and decided that he would come back to take a quick look at how she was doing later on.
As these thoughts ran through his mind, he pivoted where he stood and left for the study.
Annabelle first opened the box that contained two pairs of flip–flops. Each of the pairs was styled after a dog plushie, with one of them being pink in color and the other being brown. It was clear at a glance that both pairs were meant to come together as a set.
Annabelle turned the items over in her hands several times before she decided she was satisfied with the level of quality of the products. She decided that the flip–flops would be usable after a quick dip in water and subsequent drying.
Once she had finished examining those items, she put them to the side and proceeded to open the next box.
By the time she had finished tearing each of the boxes open, a good half hour had passed, and the boxes were piled neatly to one side with their packaging, whereas the contents were piled neatly on another. The more Annabelle took in the products she had purchased, the more satisfied she was, and she couldn’t help but pat herself on the back for having such good taste.
When she finally finished admiring her purchases, Annabelle decided it was time to resume her position. She sorted the items based on the processing required. Items that had to be washed urgently were piled to a side and separated from those that didn’t.
As she moved about, she was fully aware of the fact that she held two precious children with her in her womb. While it wasn’t a challenge for her to get up on her feet, she felt a strong arm grab hold of her elbow just as she was about to stand up. She turned her head quizzically and only saw an expressionless Lucas, who now supported her gently as he raised her up from her seat.
For some reason, his kind gesture caught Annabelle completely off guard, and it took some time before she finally regained her senses. She looked around and saw that he had already begun to clear up the empty boxes and proceeded to help him out.
However, Lucas didn’t have the slightest intention of letting her help with the chores and calmly instructed, “Sit there!”
Annabelle obediently nodded in acknowledgment and padded over to the couch. As she did so, she happened to glance at her hands and decided to make a detour to wash her hands first.
Lucas piled the boxes neatly to the side and planned to send them down to the housekeeping staff later on. With that out of his way, he swept his gaze Over the remaining items that littered the house, one of them being an oddly–shaped set of tableware, and couldn’t help but wonder what the value was in purchasing all these sorts of strange items when they already had all they needed.
That said, he instantly forgot all about the tableware the second his gaze fell on the two pairs of flip–flops that Annabelle had unpacked earlier.
When Annabelle finally emerged from the washroom, she saw Lucas staring intently at the flip flops with a slight frown.
While she had initially been exuberant about her purchases, this quickly morphed into caution as she carefully made her way over to him. She hesitated for a brief moment before she commented lightly, “I bought them because they looked rather cute. I’m not insisting that you have to wear them. It’s perfectly all right even if you leave them in the shoe cabinet. I’m also fine if you let the occasional guest use it when they come over to visit!”

“Who would you like to wear these flip–flops?” asked Lucas pointedly in a sunken tone as his gaze shifted to fixate on the top of the flip–flops, where it was clearly indicated that the footwear was meant for the husband.
However, Annabelle didn’t quite understand what Lucas was getting at or particular about. As such, she felt rather confused by the tone that he had. adopted as he spoke to her. She thought to herself, “Why can’t others wear them if you don’t
Her gaze fell upon the pair of flip–flops at Lucas‘ feet, and she froze for a moment before she stared at it closely again. All of a sudden, she understood the cause of his unhappiness.
“Do you feel that it’s not stylish to have such cheap items lying around the house?” asked Annabelle seriously as she cocked her head to the side and looked at him.”
