A Drunken Decision Cynthia Chapter 22
Chapter 22
“Mom, I had already planned on staying on our own after we get married!” After what had happened, he just wanted to execute his plans earlier.
Mary remained unsupportive of his decision. “You go to work every day, leaving Annabelle home alone. What will she do when something happens?”
“That’s easy to resolve!” Lucas said. He would first look for a place that was close to his office and hire a housekeeper, Once that was settled, he would spend more time at home so that his mother would have nothing to worry about.
“But…”
Before Mary could finish her sentence, Lucas interjected, “I’ll be worried if I leave her at home!”
He sounded extremely serious. Mary’s face instantly went pale as she remembered the hyper–realistic mouse.
Their family wasn’t unfamiliar with that incident. When the twins were little, they would often scare each other with that toy. The younger brother would cry one day, and the older sister would cry the next. Mary got so annoyed that she wanted to throw it away, but the twins were reluctant.
Once they grew up, the toy wasn’t favored anymore and was thrown into the storage room.
When they saw that thing that day, they instantly had someone in mind.
Regardless, Mary was still trying to find an excuse for her daughter. “She was just pulling a prank. It’s not…” She couldn’t finish the rest of her sentence under her son’s calm gaze.
“She has never been married before, so she doesn’t know how dangerous pregnancy can be. She… If I constantly try to find an excuse for my daughter, I will be no better than a spoiled brat’s parent,” Mary thought.
Not to mention, her daughter was already twenty–four years old, not four years old..
“I’ll give Annabelle an explanation!” Mary said.
Lucas nodded without saying another word. Regardless of what his mother wanted to do, it wasn’t going to affect his decision, such as freezing Elizabeth’s supplementary card.
Elizabeth was in a good mood earlier this morning. After having breakfast at home, she went shopping with her friends.
Being the only daughter in the Walker family, she naturally wasn’t lacking in allowances. At first, her allowance was given by her grandfather, then her father, and now her brother. She had never known what it was like to have no money, as she spent them without a care in the world. From bags to jewelry, to clothes and shoes, as long as she wanted them, she would buy them. Moreover, whether she was going to use the items after purchasing. wasn’t any of her concern – especially when she was just in the mood for shopping.
That day, while she was happily buying things for her and her friends, something awkward happened when she was about to pay.
She politely handed her card to the cashier, and a moment later, the latter respectfully handed the card back to her, smiling. “Miss, would you like to use
a different card?”
“What do you mean?” Elizabeth asked with a gruff voice, frowning. She always looked up to Lucas and loved imitating him. He would have an indifferent. expression without saying much and emitted an imposing aura.
Unfortunately for her, she didn’t have much of a presence. She could only act like him at most, which didn’t scare people.
“I think the card has been cut off,” the cashier said cautiously.
“How’s that possible?” Elizabeth frowned as she took the card back. “This is the bank card my brother transfers money in for me every month. I haven’t even spent any money this month. How did it get barred?” she wondered.
“Could you be mistaken?” Elizabeth asked.
It turned out there was no mistake – a restriction had been put on the card. After Elizabeth confirmed it over the phone, she suddenly thought of something, and her face instantly darkened.
Chapter 22
She didn’t feel that she had done something bad; she only wanted to fend for Lucas and herself.
“So my brother, who had always doted on me, canceled my card over something this trivial and made me embarrass myself in front of my scoffed inwardly.
friends?” she
Elizabeth immediately rushed back home angrily without settling the bill and left her friends behind. She wanted to question Lucas if he would only side with his wife and not her sister and other family members in the future.
However, she didn’t see Lucas once she got home. Only her disappointed grandmother and the housekeeper, who had a disapproving look, were there. Her grandfather, on the other hand, was resting in his room because he wasn’t feeling well.
Elizabeth found it strange, and just when she was about to ask, her mother came walking in, looking exhausted. The former hurriedly went up to the latter and complained, “Mom, Lucas canceled my card. Do you know how embarrassed I was in front of my friends today? Lucas is so…”
Before she could finish ranting, she got interrupted by a slap across her face.
Elizabeth was baffled. Her ears were ringing, and the side of her cheek was hot and swollen. Holding the side of her face that got slapped, she tumed and stared at her mother blankly.
“Mom! Did you just slap me?” Since she was young, Elizabeth had been spoiled rotten. No one, including her parents, had ever laid a finger on her.
As soon as Elizabeth came to her senses, her eyes reddened as she felt wronged.
Because of Lucas‘ influence, Elizabeth didn’t cry a lot. She was afraid that she would be a burden in her brother’s eyes.
“I didn’t even make it hurt!” Mary scolded. “Do you think you’re still a child? Shouldn’t you think things through before acting on them?”
Elizabeth immediately knew what Mary was referring to upon hearing it. “So what if I deliberately placed the hyper–realistic mouse toy inside that woman’s pocket? I was so concerned that she would miss it that I even poured water on her gloves. Just because I wanted to scare that woman a little, my family is now against me?” she thought.
“You just wanted to scare her a little? Are you not aware that she’s pregnant? She’s now lying in the hospital because of you. You almost made her lose her two babies! Do you know that?” Mary remarked in disappointment.
She continued, “I was really disheartened by your behavior yesterday, yet your dad defended you. He said your thoughts were just clouded and that you were confused – that you’d understand what you’ve done wrong once you’ve calmed down. But look at you right now. Not only do you not understand, but you’re becoming more absurd! Men wouldn’t even give a woman a hard time like that. So why are you giving another woman a hard time as a
woman?”
Elizabeth was at a loss for words. Nonetheless, she wasn’t willing to admit her fault. After she kept silent for what seemed like a long time, she stubbornly retorted, “So you’re just going to take her word for it? Benny and I turned out just fine, pranking each other since we were children. She must be really timid to have a miscarriage over such a small prank.”
“Isn’t she fantastic at pretending? What a bitch,” Elizabeth thought.
“You…” Mary couldn’t believe that Elizabeth could say such a thing at a time like this. “The hospital is ours, for goodness‘ sake. Why wouldn’t we know if Annabelle was faking it or not? Are the doctors there just for decorations?” Mary thought. “I’m so disappointed in you!”
“I’m also disappointed in you! Both you and Lucas!” Covering her face, Elizabeth fumed, “You guys only care about those babies. Because of them, all your principles are out the window! I hate all of you!” With that, she ran away crying
Mary was absolutely seething at the sight before her. She couldn’t fathom what had happened to her daughter, who used to be sensible.
