A Drunken Decision Cynthia Chapter 17
Chapter 17
“What are you trying to do?” Lucas questioned in a deep voice.
“Obviously, I’m thinking of ways to prevent her from giving birth to her child!” Elizabeth stated matter–of–factly. Only after she finished her words did she sense that something was amiss. Her gut feeling was spot on because she saw her brother’s cold countenance as soon as she lifted her head.
Her resolve vanished as she called out to him cautiously, “Lucas?”
“What did you have in mind?” Lucas‘ eyes brimmed with disappointment. His younger sister had never been through hardships since she was young because the Walker family was capable of shielding her from many difficulties. Despite being raised in such an environment, she was not a spoiled child. Instead, she was cheerful, generous, truthful, and kind. “When did she become someone who has no regard for someone’s life?” he wondered.
Elizabeth, too, realized her idea was out of line. However, the sight of him staring at her with a cold expression caused the resentment in her heart to prevail over her regret in an instant. “Lucas has always doted on me and never treated me like this. I knew it. All men are scumbags. He doesn’t care about his mother or younger sister anymore after getting married,” she thought.
“Did I say anything wrong? That child shouldn’t exist in the first place!” After Elizabeth said those words, she ran away in terror and anger.
Furrowing his brows, Lucas was utterly disappointed with his sister’s behavior and, at the same time, was afraid that she might do something reckless in a fit of anger.
As he was busy and did not have time to watch over her, he decided that he had to find an opportunity to talk with her. “Perhaps there is another way,” he contemplated.
However, his priority now was to accompany Annabelle for a pregnancy checkup.
“It’s better to ask the driver to give you two a ride. He can also help run errands or something after you two arrive at the hospital,” Mary suggested out of worry at the door.
In fact, she wanted to tag along, but her son’s expression deterred her from making the request.
Standing at the door, Lucas, who was fully dressed, watched Annabelle get herself ready as he replied calmly, “There’s no need for that.”
“We’re going to a private hospital owned by Pearl Group, not any other regular hospitals. I don’t have to wait in line. anyway,” he remarked inwardly.
“Drive slowly then. Annabelle is pregnant; you have to take good care of her!” Mary was worried he was still not used to being a husband and hoped he would not get distracted by a phone call and forget about Annabelle.
“Okay!” Lucas responded obediently.
Then, he saw Annabelle, who was done donning a complete winter attire consisting of a puffer jacket, scarf, hat, and gloves. Only a pair of big, round eyes could be seen on her face. At that moment, her sparkling eyes were fixated on him like those of a lost fawn, looking puzzled and innocent.
Lucas extended his hand and pinched her chin to shift her gaze away before waving at his anxious family members and reassuring them, “Don’t worry. We’ll be back soon!”
Despite promising they would be away for a while, the couple was gone for the whole afternoon, making the other Walkers wait for them restlessly.
Still dwelling on her brother’s cold treatment of her, Elizabeth did not want to listen to her family talking about Annabelle. Hence, she went upstairs right away and locked herself in her room. Not only did she refuse to meet anyone, but she also did not want to hear Annabelle’s name.
“Didn’t he say they will be back soon?” Donald and Susan became increasingly uneasy as they waited, so Mary escorted them back to their room. Meanwhile, Timothy stayed in the study. No one knew whether he could not focus on his work or had already finished it, but he soon returned to the living room on the first floor with a book. However, he did not flip through a single page for half a day.
Mary, who was relatively straightforward, wished she could place a small stool at the door and sit there to wait. By doing so, she would know immediately when her son and daughter–in–law returned.
The fifth time she looked out the door, she finally saw Lucas and Annabelle.
When she opened the door, she immediately voiced the complaints and worries in her heart, “How was the checkup? Why did it take so long? Is there a problem?”
“Why would there be a problem?” Lucas stated calmly after supporting Annabelle into the house and closing the door,
Still worried despite hearing his words, Mary continued asking as she helped Annabelle take off her jacket, “Then, why…”

“It was because she had her meal before the checkup, so she couldn’t do most of the tests and only did some simple ones. There was plenty of time left, so we headed to the office.”
When Mary heard his first sentence, she smacked herself on the head. As she and the rest of the family could not wait longer to know the baby’s condition, she forgot such an important thing.

“What? You should have brought Annabelle back home when she couldn’t do the tests. She must be so bored at the office,” she grumbled while frowning.
Annabelle, who was at the side, hurriedly explained, “We didn’t stay at the company for a long time! Afterward, we went to the supermarket to buy some daily necessities.”
Only then did Lucas recall that the stuff they bought was still in the trunk. After asking Mary to help Annabelle into the living room, he went to the garage to take them.
“Mom, these are the results of the checkup.” In the living room, Annabelle handed Mary some papers as she knew the rest of the family must be eager to read them.
With a grin, the latter took them from her, but the papers were snatched away before she could even glance at them. Mary was rendered speechless.
By then, Timothy had placed the book in his hands down on one side. While pushing up his glasses, he looked at the report he took from his wife and exclaimed without lifting his head, “I’ll read them out for you!”
“I don’t need you to do that! I can read them myself!” she yelled angrily and extended her hands to grab the papers from
him.
“T–Twins?” His bewildered tone made Mary freeze instantly.
“W–What did you say?” After finishing her words, she immediately shifted her gaze onto Annabelle and saw the latter grinning from ear to ear. With that, Mary knew she did not hear wrongly and burst into joy instantly.
“After waiting for so many years, I finally have a grandchild. On top of that, I have two at one go!” she remarked inwardly. She sat beside her daughter–in–law and held her hands while gushing, “Annabelle, you are the pride of the Walker family!” Annabelle was also delighted, but it was not because she was pregnant with twins, though that was one of the reasons. The greater news was that the doctor stated that the fetuses were developing very well after analyzing the test results.
“There’s nothing more important than my children’s health!” she thought.
Undoubtedly, she still had to go for another checkup the next day to learn more about her children’s condition. Even so, a good start meant that she was halfway through success.
No one knew if Timothy and Mary’s loud response startled Donald and Susan, but they soon came out of their room. As expected, when they learned they would have two great–grandchildren soon, they could not help but smile from ear to ear. When Lucas walked in with two shopping bags, he was greeted with the sight of his family chattering and laughing cheerfully. Even someone like him, who seldom showed any emotions, lifted the corner of his lips.
It dawned on him that the unexpected marriage was not as unacceptable as he had thought. Besides, Annabelle did not seem like a nuisance to him anymore, which he thought she would at first.
Carrying the things, he walked up the staircase and saw his sister standing at the landing with a disgruntled look.
Elizabeth initially wanted to go downstairs to grab a glass of water but became reluctant when she heard the commotion in the living room. It had not been long since she started leaning against the wall, and she unexpectedly came face to face with
Lucas.
