A Cowboy In Love

Chapter 27

- Who took her? I was really furious with Megan.

- Rodrigo took her, but in his own truck.

~ Why didn't anyone call me earlier? I just don’t count in this house. I exclaim tensely.

- And why do you bother? It wasn't what you wanted, I thought my granddaughter’s presence made you uneasy, now that she's gone you can relax.

~ am the owner of this ranch, she should have at least told me she was leaving.

- Well she told me to thank you for everything. Besides her flight was leaving very early.

~ I get up early, with a devil!

She stood up, slapping her palms on the table.

~ And what's this all about? Grisell shouted at him.

- Unbelievable! I'm out of here and don't wait for me for lunch. He grabbed his hat and stormed out of the kitchen, slamming the door, while in the distance he heard the screech of his car.

- What's biting this one? Grisell said.

~ I know which one bit him. Well, the love bug, he fell in love with her, that's why he's so angry because she left without saying a word to him.

- You think so?

- It's very clear, and my friend left without being able to realise it.

- We have to do something Mel, those two have to see each other again.

- Let things work themselves out, it's better not to force Megan and Jack. She gave a long sigh. ~ I'l go do laundry!

- Yeah maybe you're right, I just hope it's not too late by then.

Two months later, Jack walked into the kitchen as usual to eat lunch with Rodrigo. Since Megan had left, Jack was in a bad mood most of the day, almost unbearable, the only one who half tolerated him was Rodrigo.

- I bet they're really hungry.

~ Well yes, the day has been horrible with this heat, we had to attend to two mad cows. Rodrigo told him.

- Well, lunch is ready! In a moment Melisa will come down to join us.

- How nice, I've missed her so much.

- Don't be an idiot Rodrigo, you only go six hours without seeing her.

~ Jack, why do you have to talk like that? Are you in a bad mood again?

- Leave it Grisell. Said Rodrigo calmly.

- I'm hungry, why don't you serve the food.

- Come on, man, relax! Rodrigo patted him on the back.

When Grisell finished serving lunch, the phone started ringing and when she answered it, her tone of voice changed drastically and she became very cheerful. Instantly Jack tensed up, it had been two months already, but he remembered Megan as if she was there like she was every night he was staying home. It made him angry because every time she callec he never said hello, surely she'd forgotten him by now while he was like a grumpy idiot all the time.

Maybe she was dating a guy already, making a life for herself, just thinking about it made his stomach churn.

- If it bothers you so much that she calls and doesn't ask for you, then you call her. Rodrigo said in a whisper.

- Shut up! I'm not interested in talking to her.

- Now! But your face says otherwise, and your lousy mood no one wil tolerate.

- So what of it? My father's mood was the same.

~ Your father never took his frustrations out on his employees, man, that woman drives you crazy because you don't reall that.

~ That's not how it is! And I don't take my frustrations out on my employees, if they don’t do the job right I'm within my rights to demand they do it better.

~ No one has said anything about that, but there are days when nothing gets done and you're still in a foul mood. Jack, you're in love with Megan and her leaving has got you like this.

- Mind your own business.

- All right, boss, you're the boss. He went on eating without saying a word.

In love? It was absurd, well yes he missed her a little he couldn't deny it, but in love with her. He didn't believe in that possibility, he was angry with her for leaving the way she did, although he didn’t understand why he was in a bad mood every day and thought about her almost all day long, was that possible? Just then Grisell came into the dining room with two cups of coffee.

~ How is your granddaughter Grisell? Rodrigo asked her, he knew he was doing it because Jack wouldn't ask about her.

- She's very well, unfortunately she won't come to see me this month either, she says she has a lot of work to do. Grisell’s voice was full of sadness, she missed her granddaughter deeply.

- She will come, be patient.

- I hope so son, Melisa is in the kitchen she said that when she gets free she will see you on the porch.

~ Thank you Grisell, so I'll have to put up with you for another month because of the absence of the young lady! he said t his friend.

Jack felt like strangling him but concentrated on his coffee. Another month more that he wouldn't show up, didn't he care that his grandmother was dying of sadness for her, after looking for her so much and then not coming to see her. Rodrigo was right, he would be bitter for another month.

A few weeks later at the ranch “El orgullo J.M." Jack was taking inventory of what was there and what was missing, to make the weekly shopping list. That day especially he was in a very bad temper, he had hardly spoken to anyone, he had drear about Megan, and it had not been just any dream, he was making love to her like never before, he had woken up so swea and excited that not even the cold shower had relieved his irritation that it had simply been a dream. He missed that damned woman and that irritated him even more, she called every day saying the same as always that she couldn't come and making a thousand excuses, while he had very intense dreams about her.

~ Patron excuse me, but the mare luna doesn't want to be locked up at midnight, she’s pissed off.

~ Hell with that mare, what the hell does she want, if she is the best horse. I shout.

- Sorry boss! His employee left quickly.

- Leave her alone, if she doesn't want your sorrel, offer her another horse, you have many good ones. Said Rodrigo approaching him.

- 1 want to set her up with that horse.

- But she doesn't want it, you can't force her, you know that medianoche is very stubborn and rough.

Yeah, and she’s a pretty little flower, isn't she?

- In fact yes she is, a beautiful flower and apparently you haven't realised it.

That conversation no longer had anything to do with horses.

- So you think it's a beautiful flower?

- Of course it is, anyone with eyes can see it.

- What are you implying? Dropping the sheets of paper he was writing on.

~ That you're blind! She's delicate and just wants to be treated well, if you treat her roughly you won't get anything out of her.

- Do you see that in her? You're an expert on the female s*x, aren't you?

~ Yes, you could say that.

Rodrigo didn't see it coming when Jack threw a punch in his face that sent him sprawling on the pile of hay he had gathered for Jack to count. Jack was furious, he didn't quite know why he had hit Rodrigo but he had.

- Damn it Jack. He touched his nose which was starting to bleed like hell. - What the hell is wrong with you? He wiped his nose with his shirt sleeve, but it was still bleeding.

- You asked for it!

~ You're an idiot man, take that blessed plane and go see her once and for all, damn you broke my nose.
